Before we talk about the training module, I’d like to talk about some prerequisites before attempting to take this course. We will be using three separate applications in this module, Maya for asset inspection and organization, i do not go into details as to how to use Maya, some working knowledge of Maya is required. We will use Unfold 3d to unwrap the assets, some working knowledge will be useful but is not necessary for this step in the process. Inside of Houdini, prior experience with Houdini will be helpful and might make the concepts shared here easier to understand.
In this training module we’ll learn how to organize our assets, why this step is important, unwrap our assets for texturing, then finally light, shade and render the asset inside of Houdini, also we’ll talk about how to optimize renders inside of Houdini.
